Hi Reader! I don't know about you, but I have a little burst of energy right now to get some things done around the house! I know spring cleaning isn't just a Midwest thing, but I do think that the weather really encourages it. Now that winter is "Midwest Goodbyeing" (it's a thing, Google it), I'm in major "Edit" and "Organize" mode. Cleaning the house helps me clear my mind. It's fewer things on my plate that need to be done (yes, I can feel the laundry glaring at me to finish it). I think a big reason for this is that my dad, being a chef, meant things had a place. Mise en place is something I live by. If my kitchen is messy or disorganized, I go on a major cleaning frenzy. I refuse to cook until the kitchen is in order. How can I cook if I can't find anything? I also clean as I cook. To quote Julia Child, “Use all the pans, bowls, and equipment you need, but soak them in water as soon as you are through with them. Clean up after yourself frequently to avoid confusion.” I'm also working on my kids, teaching them to clean up after they play. It's an uphill battle... but even if they clean up enough that I can walk, I consider it a win! So here's to springtime, warmer weather, open windows, and a clean house.
